I attended Clinton Community College in 1996 and obtained an associate degree in Business Administration in 1998. While attending an accounting course in my first semester, I learned of a secretarial position at an investment and insurance company and I got the job. I also tutored fellow students in accounting courses. I then attended SUNY Plattsburgh and earned my bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 2000. While studying at SUNY Plattsburgh, I obtained a new job at a CPA firm in Lake Placid and before graduating was already working as an accountant doing payroll, bookkeeping, preparing individual/business tax returns, and audit fieldwork.
Upon moving back to the Plattsburgh area, I obtained a job at another CPA firm where I worked for 14 years beginning as a junior accountant and was then promoted to senior accountant. I prepared tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and not-for-profit organizations in addition to preparing financial statements at the audit, review, and compilation levels for individuals/businesses, not-for-profit, and governmental organizations as well as pension benefit plans. During that time I also got married, began a family, and built our family home in Keeseville, NY.
In 2015, I began my own accounting/bookkeeping business “MKL Accounting Services” and worked out of my home. This allowed me to work and be home for my family. In 2022, I was approached by my now partner, Karen Riccardelli, to start our own practice together. LaMountain, Riccardelli, & Petkovich Accounting, Inc. prepares individual, business, and not-for-profit, estate, trust, and gift tax returns along with all levels of bookkeeping services, payroll, and sales tax preparation.
